Best Tires for BMW M4

During years of ownership of two different BMW M4s I got to test a ton of tires, and come up with the winner. It is quite different from what you will find online, however, I have found Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 Plus to be the best all-around tire for BMW M4. Stick around and I will walk you through the reasoning behind it.

Currently I am in Colorado, so I get to experience all kinds of weather. From close to 100 degree dry heat to short-lasting thunder storms or unexpected snow. Having been a Michelin fanboy for years, the verdict of picking Continental performance tires over Michelin was not something that came to me easily, but it was undeniable. I will go over the Michelin performance tires as well to give you a solid understanding of what those tires are lacking. I didn't know it myself until I switched to Contis.

Best tires for BMW M4

Since not many BMW M4 owners are really eager to get out and play in the snow, I focused my research on dry pavement performance, ripping the M4 through the canyons, cold weather grip, wet traction, traction during the take off, and similar conditions. Performance is the main focus here.

Let's dive in to the shortened list of the best tires for BMW M4:

Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 Plus – Best All-Around Tire for BMW M4

If you want a tire that's fantastic in all non-extreme weather conditions, then Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 Plus will be the best fit for your BMW M4. I have taken it through countless mountain and canyon drives and there has barely been any times where I questioned it's ability to keep my M4 on the road. The times where I did question, I went back to in my head and thought through and came up with the conclusion that I oversteered.

I found that Continental ExtremeContact tires really lived up to their name for providing superior grip. If your M4 isn't tuned, you will have trouble breaking tires even with traction completely off. If you are driving and get a little bit of snow on the road, don't fret, it will not start sliding all over the place. They are a fantastic all-season performance tire.

Pros

  • Great traction in most weather conditions
  • Stable handling at higher speeds when going into turns
  • Up to 80,000 mile warranty
  • Low road noise
  • Cheapest in class

Cons

  • Not suited for track days

Michelin Pilot Sport 4S – Best Performance Focused Summer Tires

I currently have the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires on my Stage 2 Pure Turbo BMW 535i. These tires have much better traction than the predecessor Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires. Quite frankly the only thing that hasn't improved with these tires is the performance in snow. You will still need dedicated winter tires such as Blizzak DM-V2 tires.

These Michelin tires are firmer than the Continental tires and are the most suited tires for track performance out of the tires on this list. One of the issues that are persistent with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S are how fast they wear down and how limited their warranty is.

Pros

  • Great tire for track days
  • Solid performance on wet pavement
  • Stellar at cornering

Cons

  • Very expensive
  • Do not last long
  • Terrible even in the ligthest snow

Federal 595 RS PRO – Best Cheap Tire For BMW M4

If you somehow have a BMW M4 and are short on money for some reason, the Federal 595 RS Pro tire might be the way to go. This tire is super cheap so do not expect it to have stellar performance in any regard. It is good enough to get you by while you get your cash right and can buy one of the two above.

That being said, they are pretty sticky, so if you are used to your car breaking the traction quickly in your Michelin tires, that's not going to be the case with the Federal 595 RS Pro tires. Well, unless maybe if your M4 has quite a bit more power than stock. Interestingly enough, I have driven 2200 miles with them during winter and even ran into some snow, however, they handled surprisingly well. One thing to note, they are very loud, so make sure that your sterio works well if you are going down the route of putting Federal 595 RS Pro tires on your BMW M4.

Pros

  • Possibly the cheapest tire that you can put on your M4
  • They do not wear down quickly
  • Good traction on dry and wet pavement

Cons

  • Very loud
  • Would not trust them on curves
  • Very limited size options
